The Mind Fund – Economic support programme for women accessing theraphy
With therapy remaining inaccessible to many due to the stigma and restrictive costs that are associated with it, Tamùkke Feminists is launching its flagship mental health economic support programme, “The Mind Fund.”
We center self-care and mental wellness in our work and recognise that due to structural barriers, many women and girls are unable or prevented from accessing mental health services and support. In an effort to address this barrier, Tamùkke with the support of a CAISO-Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice COVID-19 responsive grant, is embarking on a programme to connect women to mental health professionals.
This intervention will cover the expenses related to therapy/counselling, for persons who identify as women. It is our hope that the intervention not only connects women to the right resources, but aids in the reduction of stigma associated with seeking professional mental wellness support.
The Mind Fund will economically support participants therapy based on their individual needs on an annual basis. As part of our mental health support programme, Tamùkke will also be undertaking several self-care and wellness activities throughout the year.
Tamùkke Feminists is an intersectional feminist collective that centers community care, women’s rights and gender justice in Guyana. We were formed in 2017 with an aim of building public education on issues relevant to women and their social, economic and political development. There was a needed space for accessible information on “taboo” topics that can impact women’s lives. Over the past few years, we have facilitated training sessions for young advocates on sexual grooming, safe abortion access, mental wellness and Trans liberation etc.
